Nintendo Wii - Smart Gaming

The new Wii is the fifth home video game console from nintendo. This gaming device is the direct successor to the nintendo gamecube and targets a broader demographic than that of the xbox 360 by microsoft and PlayStation3 by Sony. The game console comes with the distinguishing feature of a wireless controller, the Wii remote, which can be used as a handheld pointing device and is able to detect acceleration in three dimensions. Another feature is the WiiConnect24, which enables it to receive messages and updates over the internet in a standby mode.

nintendo first announced the entry of the Wii console at the 2004 E3 press conference the system and later unveiled it in the 2005 E3. The console was known by the code name of "Revolution" until April 27, 2006. But later, it was changed to the Wii. It was the first home console nintendo had marketed outside of Japan. nintendo announced the launching of the console on September 14, 2006. The company announced that the majority of the 2006 shipments would be allotted to the Americas, while the 33 titles would be available in the 2006 launch window. nintendo also announced the release of the console in South Korea by the beginning of 2008.

Since its launch, nintendo Wii recorded a high rise in the monthly sale of the console beating its competitors across the globe. According to the NPD Group, the nintendo Wii sold more units in North America than the xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 combined in the first half of 2007, which was a record in gaming console history. nintendo also enjoys a large market share in the japanese market, where it currently leads in total sales, having outsold both consoles by factors of 2:1 to 6:1 nearly every week from its launch until November 2007. The sale of the nintendo Wii in Australia also created history by overtaking its competitors.

The Nintendo Revolution Controller - Skepticism Meets Reality

Well over the past week or so I have had plenty of time to sit back and take a critical look at the new nintendo Revolution controller. Initially, when I first saw the teaser I was excited about the possibilities the new controller offered. However after some more reflection and further reading, though I am still enthusiastic, I think there are some serious questions that need to be asked.

nintendo has been an innovator in the video game industry since the early 1980s. From the very beginning, nintendo engineers have had to prove themselves. The introduction of the analogue controller and even the rumble pack was met with a great deal of skepticism, yet are considered industry standards today. However, a single hand remote style controller is arguably a much larger innovation and is met with even more skepticism.

It has been reported on several websites that the Nintendo Revolution will be compatible with gamecube titles. Of course this raises questions on how the new controller will function with these games

What we are telling people right now is that there are several peripherals in the works that will be used for the older games, said Perrin Kaplan, vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs for nintendo. Of course, people will be able to plug their gamecube controller right in and use that, but if they want, they can use the Revolutions peripherals for an entirely new and fresh experience.

Will gamers be able to adapt to a single hand controller? I think the answer to this question will depend on game developers. The success of the controller and the console for that matter depends on whether-or-not game developers will be able to produce games which compliment the new controller.

This also raises questions over game cross-over from one system to another. With the introduction of a whole new controller, effectively changing the way we play games, well we see a drop in big title games available for multiple systems?

With the release of the new teaser and a slew of new images, people are forgetting that the new nintendo Revolution controller is not at the final design stage.

No, this is not the final design. You wont see that until the release is here, but we are getting much closer, explained Kaplan.

Over the next several months, more information will become available. Information which will either put much of the skepticism to rest, or more likely, create even more. With a product like the nintendo Revolution controller, apprehension and skepticism are natural, making this a critical time for nintendo. With the release of the Xbox before the end of 2005 and the processing power of the Playstation 3 Nintendo really does have to come up with something revolutionary to compete in the next generation game console market. Does Nintendo really have something special for us? only time well tell.

Yoga in Practice - Hidden Opportunities to Learn

Jnana yoga does not have to exist within the study of scripture only. We can also learn useful lessons by observing the actions of others. Have you ever noticed that those people who tend to cause new rules to be instituted, never stay in one place very long?

They wear out their welcome fast. They may go through a number of jobs, creating new rules for everyone else, they leave behind. These are the rule breakers of life. In yoga studios, on the job, or out in traffic, they set precedents everywhere they go.

Rule breakers tend to be self-serving and negative about life in general. Everyone owes them something, life is never fair to them, and their surrounding environment is to blame for all the wrongs life has done to them. Their family, job, society, and friends are at fault for their lot in life.

Believe it or not, you can learn a lot by watching a rule breaker in practice. My grandfather used to say, Even the court jester can teach you something. It is very true in this case, as well.

For a start, we can learn how not to act, but there is much more. How are this persons listening skills? Chances are - this person does not listen to others. In fact, part of making lasting friendships, partnerships, and relationships, is to listen to others empathically.

Does this person take responsibility for his or her actions? Usually, this person feels they are smarter than everyone else, but a victim of circumstance when schemes do not have the desired result.

The irony is - a rule breaker will never be navigated by reality, unless he or she makes a big change in attitude. Therefore, always be guided by common sense and ethics.
